A post-mortem examination has revealed that Makueni County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Dr. Sonia Nzilani, died of cardiac arrest, clarifying the circumstances surrounding her sudden death after she was found dead on Saturday at her Makueni home.
The examination, carried out in Machakos and attended by close family members and Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, confirmed that Dr. Nzilani had lived with a cardiac condition for 22 years, which ultimately contributed to the fatal incident.

The post-mortem was performed by Dr. Danzen Kituku and Dr. Catherine Waithera Ula, who established that Dr. Nzilani suffered a vascular rupture, medically described as a ruptured blood vessel leading to internal haemorrhage caused by blood extravasation.
This rupture caused blood to leak into the wrong vascular compartments, triggering acute cardiac arrest.
The findings bring clarity to earlier uncertainty about the illness she had been battling and definitively explain the cause of death.
Channel 15 News will continue to follow this developing story and will provide updates on funeral arrangements and official communication from the Makueni County Government as soon as they are released.
