Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna (CNN) has stirred political debate after announcing a high-profile meeting with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, a move that has left many wondering — has the outspoken Wiper MP finally crossed over to the government side?
In a statement shared on his verified social media pages, Nguna revealed that he held “a consultative meeting” with the President to discuss what he termed as pertinent issues affecting Mwingi West Constituency.

“Together, we discussed the completion of Kwasiku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road, Kiio Sports Academy, Migwani Market, Thitani Technical Training Institute, and electrification of unconnected areas within the constituency,” Nguna said.
He further noted that they touched on water provision, youth and women empowerment, and preparations for Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be held in Kitui County.
“We both committed to working together for the betterment of the constituency and Kenya at large.” Nguna added

But while the MP’s tone sounded developmental and patriotic, political observers and party insiders were quick to read between the lines — was this a development meeting or a political defection?
Wiper Wing Reacts: “Nguna Must Come Out Clean”
During a rally in Kalundu, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka indirectly addressed Nguna’s growing closeness with State House, warning that “going forward, Nguna will have to come out clean on which side he wants to align with.”
The remark was echoed by Eng. Jonathan Ndisya Ngenga, a rising political figure tipped to challenge Nguna in the next election. Ndisya accused Nguna of “betrayal and disloyalty” to the Wiper Party and its leadership.
Adding fuel to the debate, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse—a key player in President Ruto’s camp—welcomed Nguna in what appeared to be a symbolic embrace of his new direction.

“Welcome to the team brother Hon. CNN. Our people deserve development, not stories. We are the generation that will deliver our people from the bondage of shortsighted politics,” Mutuse wrote on his social media, prompting speculation that Nguna had indeed joined the Kenya Kwanza fold.
Mutuse’s post was particularly provocative given his recent role in engineering the impeachment motion against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has since been ousted — a move that cemented his influence within the ruling alliance.
Nguna Responds: “I Will Always Respect Kalonzo”

In a swift response following Kalonzo’s remarks in Kalundu, Nguna sought to clarify his position:
“I am a true son of H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka because he mentored me when I was young, and I have been very loyal. Deep from my heart, I will always respect and cherish him,” Nguna stated.
“Based on what transpired yesterday at Kalundu, now it’s my turn to live and act as a leader who has learned from the best and most humble leader I have ever met in SKM.”
Yet, his words have not fully cooled the storm — especially as questions linger about his State House ties and whether his development agenda is now tied to Kenya Kwanza’s political machine.

Has Hon. Charles Nguna formally joined President Ruto’s government side, or was the meeting purely developmental?
How will Wiper Party handle this apparent defection amid growing calls for loyalty within its ranks?
Could this mark a political realignment in Mwingi West, with new forces like Eng. Jonathan Ndisya Ngenga preparing to take advantage of Nguna’s perceived fallout?
And with Mashujaa Day celebrations coming to Kitui County, will the region’s leaders use the moment to showcase unity — or deepen political divisions?
