Kitui County is taking a significant step toward enhancing patient care as it receives vital oxygen support equipment from Amref Health Africa under the ongoing Oxygen Support Project. The initiative is designed to ensure that critically ill patients, especially newborns and those in emergency situations, have timely access to medical oxygen and improved monitoring services.

The newly delivered equipment will strengthen hospital units such as maternity wards, theatres, newborn units, and emergency departments, enhancing both oxygen availability and patient monitoring. Health officials say these upgrades will have a direct impact on patient outcomes, improving emergency response and saving lives across the county.
The Oxygen Support Project is a national effort implemented by Amref Health Africa in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Council of Governors, the Kenya Coordinating Mechanism, and other stakeholders. It focuses on enhancing oxygen generation, piping, and distribution systems in health facilities, ensuring a reliable and continuous supply. In Kitui, 20 hospitals are already benefiting from the installation of modern oxygen piping and manifold systems, which deliver oxygen directly to wards and reduce dependence on manually transported cylinders.

During the handover, county health officials expressed gratitude to Amref Health Africa for its continued support in strengthening the healthcare system. They highlighted that the initiative will significantly improve critical care services and boost the county’s ability to respond to medical emergencies.
The County Government of Kitui, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable healthcare services for all residents.
