A middle-aged woman has died following a tragic road accident on Wednesday evening at Kimangu area near the Makutano Ma Kyumbi Junction in Machakos County.

The woman died on the spot after the private saloon car she was travelling in collided head-on with a matatu. Her two sons, who were also in the vehicle, survived the crash but sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to an accident report filed by the Machakos County Rescue Team, the saloon car was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it swerved to avoid a head-on collision.

During the maneuver, the woman reportedly attempted to jump out of the moving car, leading to her death in the ensuing crash.

Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the accident as concern grows over the increasing number of road crashes along the busy Makutano Ma Kyumbi stretch.
