Kitoo Secondary School in Mbooni, Makueni County, has been closed indefinitely after a fire engulfed one of its dormitories. Property of unknown value was destroyed in the blaze, which occurred shortly after evening preps had ended.

According to a teacher at the school, it is suspected that the fire was intentionally set by students. The incident is part of a worrying trend of school fires that has been on the rise this term. Several similar cases have been reported across the country, raising alarm over student safety and discipline in schools.

In a tragic case earlier this term, 21 students perished at Endarasha High School following a dormitory fire, adding to the growing list of fire outbreaks in learning institutions. This has sparked a national conversation on the need for tighter security and preventive measures in schools.

No injuries were reported at Kitoo Secondary, but the school administration has opted to suspend activities and send students home as investigations continue. Authorities are working to establish the cause of the fire and the involvement of students in the incident.
