Barely a day after his driver was fined KSh 100,000 over the viral “Pelekea Ruto” traffic incident, Kibra MP Peter Orero has once again found himself in the public spotlight—this time for a rather sleepy moment.

Photos captured by Standard Media photographer Collins Oduor on Tuesday, October 14, show the legislator appearing to doze off during a session of the National Assembly Committee on Education’s oversight meeting held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi.
In the widely circulated pictures, Orero—who sits on the parliamentary education team—appears to struggle to keep his eyes open as other members engage KICD officials in discussion. The images quickly spread online, drawing light-hearted jokes and memes, with some Kenyans linking the episode to the stress of the previous day’s controversy.
Others, however, defended the MP, saying long committee sittings often stretch late into the day, testing even the most disciplined lawmakers’ endurance.

The incident adds to a rough week for the Kibra legislator, whose driver’s confrontation with journalist Larry Madowo on Nairobi roads went viral after he was heard uttering the phrase “Pelekea Ruto.”
As public attention on Orero remains high, political observers say the back-to-back events underscore the intense scrutiny facing elected officials in the age of smartphones and social media—where even a brief nap can spark a national conversation.
