Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu has assured Kenyans that the opposition coalition will front a single presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election, with the joint flag bearer expected to be unveiled at least one year before the polls.
Speaking during an interview on #FixingTheNation on NTV, Dr. Mulu dismissed growing speculation of internal rifts within the opposition ranks, insisting that what is being witnessed is part of the natural process of coalition building.

“We want to assure Kenyans that we are going to have one candidate as a united opposition. When forming a team, there are stages — it doesn’t happen in a day. For all the presidential candidates to agree, there has to be some push and pull, and that’s part of agreeing that there must be give and take,” Dr. Mulu said.
The legislator likened the current differences reported in the media to “sibling rivalry,” saying that unity talks among opposition leaders are progressing well behind the scenes.
“The vita baridi (cold war) that the nation is reading about today is simply part of the negotiations — a way of asking what one can give and what one can take. I want to assure the nation that this time round, we will give Kenyans a single opposition candidate one year to the elections,” he added.
Dr. Mulu also downplayed reports of discord between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, describing their recent public exchanges as “normal sibling rivalry” rather than a political feud.
His remarks come amid renewed momentum among opposition figures to consolidate their forces under one coalition to challenge President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration in 2027.
