In a profound spiritual ceremony that drew hundreds of faithful, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, shepherd of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, officially opened the Third Door of Hope at Our Lady of Protection Shrine, Museve. This milestone marks a continuing journey of faith in the diocese, following similar openings at Holy Family Catholic Parish, Mutomo (December 29, 2024) and Our Lady of Africa Cathedral, Kitui (January 5, 2025). The much-anticipated Fourth Door of Hope is set to be unveiled at Good Shepherd Church, Mwingi in the coming weeks.

A Call for Spiritual Renewal and Forgiveness
In his stirring homily, Bishop Mwongela called upon the congregation to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation, themes central to the Year of Hope declared by the Church. He challenged the faithful to break free from the bondage of self-comparison, warning that measuring oneself against others only breeds jealousy, resentment, and stagnation.

“Be content with who you are and what you have,” he advised, urging Christians to focus on their unique journey rather than envying the success of others.
He further emphasized the power of unity and collective progress, likening the Church to the body of Christ, where every part has a role to play. The bishop stressed that communities thrive when people value each other’s contributions rather than monopolizing responsibilities.

“Never try to do everything yourself. Give others an opportunity to work and respect their efforts. Likewise, never say you have nothing to offer—do what you can,” he urged.
Commitment to Christian Vows and Unwavering Faith
Bishop Mwongela also issued a powerful moral call, reminding the faithful that Christian values must remain unshaken in a world increasingly defined by compromise.
“Sin remains sin, regardless of your age or situation. Stay true to the vows you made during the sacraments and remain steadfast in faith,” he admonished.

The event was graced by Fr. Peter Muema, who was recently celebrated for 50 years of priesthood at the Cathedral on January 25. He echoed the bishop’s message, reminding Christians that forgiveness is the path to inner peace and divine grace.
The Door of Hope: A Pathway to Spiritual Renewal
The faithful, who had traveled from various parishes, had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Penance, embracing God’s mercy and experiencing spiritual renewal.

The Door of Hope is deeply rooted in Catholic tradition, symbolizing a passage to salvation and a renewed life in Christ. Inspired by the concept of the Holy Door, which is opened in major basilicas during Jubilee years, this initiative invites the faithful to step into a deeper relationship with God. Walking through such a door represents the believer’s journey from sin to grace, underscoring the Church’s mission to be a beacon of hope and a source of spiritual transformation.
With the Diocese of Kitui now eagerly awaiting the opening of the Fourth Door of Hope in Mwingi, the faithful remain inspired by Bishop Mwongela’s unwavering commitment to reviving faith, restoring hope, and strengthening the community of believers.
