Kenyan singer, entrepreneur and outspoken social media personality Akothee has candidly opened up on the dramatic collapse of her highly publicized marriage, barely three weeks after a lavish wedding that captivated the nation.
In a raw, humorous and defiant post shared on her social media platforms, the artist—whose real name is Esther Akoth Kokeyo—laughed off the short-lived union, famously summing it up as a “big wedding, small marriage,” while declaring herself the “Certified Chief Officer of Failed Marriages.”
Known for her unfiltered honesty and flamboyant lifestyle, Akothee said the experience pushed her to emotional limits but ultimately made her stronger.
“Kama hii haikunivunja basi hamna lolote duniani laweza nitisha,” she wrote, insisting that if such a public heartbreak did not break her, nothing else ever will.
Mental Health Disclosure and Feelings of Betrayal
Akothee revealed that the marriage collapsed after she allegedly discovered her partner had been battling bipolar disorder, a condition she claims was never disclosed to her before they tied the knot.

While acknowledging that mental health challenges are real, the singer emphasized that what she could not accept was dishonesty, saying she felt deeply betrayed after uncovering the issue on her own.
“What I, Esther Akoth Kokeyo, don’t accept in a relationship is dishonesty. He never disclosed to me that he had been battling mental health issues since birth,” she stated.
According to Akothee, the emotional outbursts that followed took a heavy toll on her wellbeing, forcing her to walk away in order to save herself.
“It’s Suicidal If You’re Not Strong”
The mother of five described the situation as emotionally dangerous, warning that staying in such a relationship without strength could be devastating.
“It’s suicidal if you are not strong,” she noted, adding that she prays none of her children will ever find themselves in a similar situation.
She also made it clear that public opinion, societal expectations, or family pressure would not dictate her life choices.
“Since I am not your child, you can’t beat me. Even my own mother—whom I have embarrassed for years—can only unmother me,” Akothee wrote defiantly.
A Wedding Watched by Millions, A Marriage That Shocked Them
Akothee’s glamorous wedding had attracted massive attention from fans, celebrities and media houses, making the abrupt end of the marriage even more shocking.
“Imagine the whole world watching such a beautiful wedding only for it to last three weeks,” she joked, punctuating the statement with laughter emojis.

As expected, the revelation has sparked intense debate online, with supporters praising her honesty and courage, while critics accuse her of oversharing deeply personal matters.
Unbothered by the backlash, Akothee ended her post boldly—declaring she is “outside with society,” daring critics to say whatever they wish.
