At least 10 people are undergoing treatment at Matuu Level 4 Hospital in Machakos County after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident near Matuu Town along the Thika-Garissa Highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved an 18-seater matatu traveling from Machakos to Matuu and a tipper lorry carrying sand from Matuu to Thika. The two vehicles nearly collided head-on, leaving the matatu badly damaged after the Nissan was hit on the drivers’s side.

Emergency responders and bystanders rushed to the scene to help the injured, who were later transported to the hospital. While the injuries sustained were severe, no fatalities were reported.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with initial reports pointing to possible speeding and reckless driving as contributing factors. Motorists are urged to exercise caution on the busy highway to avoid similar incidents.
