Wiper Patriotic Front Kitui Central MP aspirant Pauline Mwania has taken aim at former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu over what she appeared to suggest was a political scheme to undermine her 2027 parliamentary ambitions, declaring that she was unfazed by the latest developments as she continued engaging voters.
Although Mwania did not mention Ngilu by name, her remarks appeared to point to the former governor as she accused a prominent Kitui politician of allegedly sponsoring what she termed as “projects” intended to scuttle her bid for the Kitui Central seat.
Speaking during development tours in Kitui Township Ward, where she accompanied Governor Julius Malombe in commissioning several projects, Mwania urged her supporters not to be distracted by what she described as attempts to influence the constituency’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
She maintained that she was not worried about the emerging political developments, telling supporters to remain focused as she continued reaching out to residents.
Mwania received a warm reception from locals during the tours, which came as political activity gathers pace ahead of the next general election.
The aspirant has expressed interest in contesting the Kitui Central parliamentary seat on a Wiper Patriotic Front ticket, seeking to succeed incumbent MP Dr Makali Mulu.
Mulu is eyeing the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2027, positioning himself to succeed Malombe, who is serving his second and final term as governor.
The succession battle is expected to shape political alignments in Kitui County, with the Kitui Central parliamentary contest emerging as one of the races attracting early attention.
Ngilu was not directly named in Mwania’s remarks, and the allegation that a prominent politician was sponsoring rival “projects” had not been independently verified.
