The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has concluded a two-day candidate registration exercise for the Migwani County Assembly Ward by-election, scheduled for November 17, 2026, in Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County.

On the second and final day of registration, Returning Officer Julius Maingi cleared three additional candidates to contest the by-election: Susan Nzoka of the Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya (PICK), Mwangangi Munyoki of the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) and Kimanzi Mwendwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Their clearance brings the total number of candidates approved to contest the Migwani Ward by-election to six.
With the campaign period now underway, the commission has urged all candidates, political parties, supporters and other stakeholders to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct, respect divergent views and conduct their campaigns peacefully.

The IEBC has further called on all stakeholders to embrace tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence before, during and after the election.

The commission emphasised that every candidate has the right to campaign freely, while every voter deserves an environment free from fear and intimidation in which to make an independent electoral choice.
The IEBC reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating a free, fair, transparent and peaceful by-election in Migwani Ward.
