President William Ruto on Monday hosted His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho at State House, Nairobi, in high-level talks focused on tackling hunger, malnutrition and advancing reforms within the African Union.
King Letsie III, who serves as the African Union Champion on Nutrition, held discussions with President Ruto on strengthening food security across the continent and accelerating measures aimed at ending hunger and malnutrition affecting millions of Africans.
The two leaders underscored the need for African governments to adopt sustainable agricultural policies, strengthen nutrition programmes and deepen regional cooperation to build resilient food systems capable of withstanding climate change and economic shocks.
President Ruto also briefed the Lesotho monarch on ongoing deliberations to reform the African Union, saying the proposed changes are intended to make the continental body more efficient, accountable and responsive to the needs and aspirations of African citizens.
The meeting comes at a time when many African countries continue to grapple with food insecurity driven by prolonged droughts, climate change, conflict and rising food prices, placing renewed focus on coordinated continental action.
The visit by King Letsie III highlights growing collaboration among African leaders on shared priorities, with food security and institutional reforms increasingly taking centre stage in efforts to drive sustainable development and improve the livelihoods of millions across the continent.
