The National Assembly has reshuffled several parliamentary committees in a move aimed at accommodating newly elected Members of Parliament and reorganizing House leadership structures.

The changes, approved by the Committee on Selection under Standing Order 175 of the National Assembly Standing Orders, affect a number of key oversight and departmental committees within the House.

Among those handed new committee assignments is newly elected Emurua Dikirr MP Hon. David Kipsang Keter, who has been appointed to both the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee and the Departmental Committee on Regional Development.

Hon. Mohamed Tubi, MP was also moved to two influential committees, joining the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education as well as the Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation.

The reshuffle further saw Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, HSC, MP appointed to the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning, replacing Hon. Betty Njeri Maina, MP.

Hon. Betty Njeri Maina was subsequently moved to the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure to fill a vacancy left following the death of the late Ol Kalou MP Hon. David Kiaraho.

In another notable change, Hon. Joseph Kipkosgei Tonui, MP joined the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works, filling a position left vacant after the death of former committee chairperson Hon. Johana Ng’eno.

The Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity also recorded changes, with Hon. Jack Wanami Wamboka, CBS, MP replacing Hon. Dick Maungu Oyugi, MP.

Other changes affected the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee, the Committee on Members’ Services and Facilities, the Special Funds Accounts Committee, and the Departmental Committee on Education.

The committee reorganization is expected to strengthen parliamentary operations and ensure representation of the newly elected lawmakers in House business.
