Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive claims that he and his allies were targeted in what he described as a coordinated armed attack while attending a church service at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County.

In a statement issued during the incident, Gachagua alleged that a “killer squad” had been sent to eliminate him, claiming the attackers surrounded the church and launched an assault using live bullets and tear gas, forcing worshippers to remain trapped inside the sanctuary.
“William Ruto has sent a killer squad to kill us inside Witima ACK Church, Othaya. We are marooned in church being attacked with live bullets and tear gas. They have torched my vehicles. We ask Kenyans to pray for us to come out alive,” Gachagua stated.

According to the former Deputy President, vehicles linked to him were set ablaze during the chaos, as panic gripped congregants and residents in the area.
The dramatic claims quickly sparked public outrage and widespread concern, particularly over the alleged use of force at a place of worship, with Kenyans online calling for restraint, accountability, and the protection of civilian lives.

As of the time of publication, the government and security agencies had not issued an official response to the allegations.
The situation remains fluid as Kenyans await clarity from authorities regarding what transpired at the church.
