Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata attended a fundraiser at AIC Kitui Township Church over the weekend, hosted by Kitui Senator and gubernatorial aspirant Enoch Kiio. The event drew leaders from Kitui and Murang’a counties, including Kitui Rural MP David Mwalika, Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, and ten Murang’a County MCAs.

During the church service, Senator Kiio criticized President William Ruto’s recent tour of Ukambani, describing it as a “failed mission that yielded no political traction” and dismissed a meeting at Kitui State Lodge earlier in the week as a “handout-driven gathering.” He also reiterated his support for Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid, saying, “It is loud and clear, Kenyans have spoken. Ukambani is a full Wiper Patriotic Front Zone.”

Social media posts from the event showed Kang’ata alongside Kitui leaders, with Kiio writing: “It was my pleasure to host my friend and former colleague at Senate H.E. Governor Irungu Kang’ata of Murang’a County together with 10 MCAs from Murang’a County Assembly.”

Political analysts note that Kang’ata’s attendance, which included leaders from a party outside his usual political base, may indicate cross-county collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the governor has not made any public declarations about his political alignment.

Kang’ata’s appearance at the fundraiser hosted by a Wiper stalwart has stirred discussions among political observers, as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections.
