A fresh political storm is brewing after opposition leaders hit back at President William Ruto over his recent claims that the opposition is driven by political greed.
Speaking during the burial of Terry Kariuki, the wife of the late JM Kariuki, at Kanyamwe Farm in Gilgil, Nakuru County, the leaders dismissed the President’s remarks, saying he has grown increasingly unsettled by the warm reception Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka received in Nyanza.

According to the leaders, the unexpected show of support for Kalonzo has disrupted Ruto’s political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Nimeona huyu Kasongo jana akilia akisema kwamba ati kuna wanaume wanakutana kugawa… huyu Kasongo hana habari, amechanganyikiwa,”former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua remarked, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The united opposition accused President Ruto of using propaganda to undermine their growing influence and insisted that their movement is not about personal gain but about saving the country from poor leadership.
They also dismissed reports suggesting that one of their own was secretly in talks with the President, terming the claims “state-sponsored distractions meant to divide the opposition.”
In his address, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka urged Kenyans to confront long-standing issues of historical injustices, including the assassinations of reformist leaders, in memory of JM Kariuki, who was killed for standing up for the truth.
The opposition leaders pledged to remain united as they prepare for what they termed a “new political dawn” ahead of the 2027 General Election.
