A Kibera court has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for defiling a minor in Raila Slums, Nairobi — in a ruling that underscores the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) firm stance against sexual offences targeting children.
The man, whose identity was withheld to protect the minor, was found guilty of defilement and possession of pornography after the prosecution, led by State Counsel Ann Murage, produced eight witnesses who gave detailed accounts of how he lured the unsuspecting minor to his house and committed the heinous act while recording it on his mobile phone.
Delivering the judgment, Kibera Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi described the offence as “sadistic and depraved,” noting that the accused had robbed the young girl of her innocence and childhood.
In addition to the lengthy jail term, Hon. Njagi ordered the convict to pay Ksh. 2 million in restitution to the victim, in line with the Victims Protection Act.
The court further directed that upon completing his sentence, the convict will remain under supervision for seven years, as provided under Section 39 of the Sexual Offences Act.
The ruling has been welcomed by the DPP’s office as a strong statement against perpetrators of sexual violence, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of minors.
