A family in Kiangu, Ikutha, Kitui South Constituency is demanding justice after the sudden and mysterious death of their Grade 2 daughter at Wiitu Comprehensive School.

According to the mother, her child was in perfect health when she prepared her for school on September 2 and handed her over to the administration as usual. Hours later, at around 3 p.m., she was informed by an unknown caller that her daughter had collapsed.

Rushing to the school, the distraught mother found her child lying on the ground unattended. “I picked her up and carried her towards the road in desperation. It was at that point that police officers came across us and helped ferry her remains. Sadly, by then she had already passed away,” she recounted in grief.

Police later processed the body as detectives opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the pupil’s death. The mother now insists that someone must be held accountable, accusing the school of negligence and a lack of immediate response to her daughter’s medical emergency.

By press time, the administration of Wiitu Comprehensive School had not issued any statement on the incident despite repeated attempts to reach them for comment.

The community has been left in shock, with parents raising concerns over safety measures and the preparedness of schools in handling medical emergencies involving pupils.

    Investigations are ongoing.
