A Kisumu court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after convicting him of defiling a four-year-old girl, an offence committed within the Sega Sega area of Kisumu Central on January 6, 2025.

The accused faced a principal charge of defilement, contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006. He was also charged with an alternative count of committing an indecent act with a child, contrary to Section 11(1) of the same Act.

During the trial, the prosecution—led by Mr. Newton Ochieng—produced evidence and called five witnesses whose testimonies established the sequence of events. The court heard that on the material day, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the accused lured the minor into his house. Once inside, he coerced her into removing her undergarments before proceeding to sexually assault her.

In delivering its verdict, the trial court ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt. The accused was found guilty of defilement and accordingly sentenced to life imprisonment as prescribed by law.
