Celebrated reggae MC and entertainer John Maina, popularly known as MC Fullstop, has died after a prolonged battle with lung tuberculosis. His death has sent shockwaves across Kenya’s music industry, with deejays, hypemen, and fans flooding social media with heartfelt tributes.

The news of his passing was confirmed by renowned mixmaster Deejay Juan, who told, “He has left us. He was in the hospital.” Fullstop’s family has yet to release an official statement or share details about funeral arrangements.

MC Fullstop rose to national fame as a high-energy reggae hypeman, becoming a familiar voice on TV and in clubs across the country. Known for his electrifying stage presence, he was instrumental in shaping Kenya’s reggae scene—whether hyping dancehall mixes on television or voicing signature intros on CD mixes that filled airwaves and matatus for over a decade.

His health struggles were widely publicized. He had openly spoken about his years-long battle with tuberculosis, revealing that it had permanently damaged one of his lungs and robbed him of much of his voice. In 2023 and 2024, fans were alarmed by images showing a visibly weakened Fullstop in a hospital bed, prompting an outpouring of support and prayers. Earlier this year, he was forced to respond to viral rumours claiming he had passed, dismissing them and urging the public to be sensitive about matters concerning his health.

Despite his deteriorating condition, Fullstop remained in the public eye, often sharing health updates and encouraging messages. He once admitted that his illness had reached a point where even speaking or walking had become extremely difficult. “Unlike the liver, lungs do not heal themselves. I think I’m going to hang my boots,” he said in an emotional moment that moved many of his supporters.

With his passing, Kenya loses not just a musical icon, but a cultural figure whose voice carried generations through reggae rhythms and dancehall vibes. For many, MC Fullstop was more than a hypeman—he was the heartbeat of Kenya’s reggae sound.

Details regarding memorial services are expected to be released by the family in due course.
