In a bombshell revelation that could rattle the political foundations of the ruling party, former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has sensationally accused President William Ruto’s party of orchestrating a massive tax evasion scandal involving millions of shillings.

Speaking exclusively to a local newspaper on Sunday, Malala painted a grim picture of blatant impunity at the heart of the Ruto-led administration, claiming UDA has systematically failed to remit statutory taxes despite receiving substantial funding from the Political Parties Fund since August 2022.

Among the explosive allegations, Malala detailed that UDA had consistently failed to deduct and remit critical statutory obligations — including Income Tax (Pay As You Earn), National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) contributions, and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) payments. He further revealed that even under the newly established Social Health Authority, UDA employees’ deductions have been entirely ignored, raising serious questions about the party’s commitment to the very financial discipline it demands from ordinary Kenyans.
“This administration has been preaching water and drinking wine,” Malala charged, accusing UDA of applying double standards by imposing heavy taxes on struggling citizens while evading its own obligations with reckless abandon.

The scandal threatens to expose deep cracks within Ruto’s party at a time when the government is already battling public outrage over the soaring cost of living and controversial new levies.
As the country reels from these damning claims, pressure is mounting on investigative agencies to open a full probe into UDA’s financial conduct — a move that could have seismic political ramifications ahead of the 2027 elections.
