Meru County is set to usher in new leadership as Deputy Speaker Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia prepares to be sworn in as governor on Monday, March 17, 2025. This follows the issuance of Gazette Notice No. 3232, which officially confirms the assumption of office ceremony at Mwendantu Grounds at 8:30 a.m.

The notice, published in the Kenya Gazette, cites Articles 181 and 182 of the Constitution, as well as provisions in the County Governments Act and the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act. It marks the final step in a transition triggered by the impeachment of the former county chief, a move that has left Meru’s political landscape deeply divided.

    Political Shake-Up in Meru

M’Ethingia’s rise to power comes after months of intense political battles, with the impeachment process exposing deep rifts within the county assembly and Senate. While his supporters see this as a fresh start for Meru, critics question whether the transition will bring stability or fuel further divisions.

    What Lies Ahead?

The incoming governor faces an uphill task in restoring public trust, bridging the political divide, and steering the county toward development. Key on his agenda will be addressing governance concerns, uniting leaders, and ensuring seamless service delivery.

As Meru prepares for a new chapter, all eyes will be on Mwendantu Grounds, where history will be made.
